The freebie I am posting is called Birthday Similarities and Differences. I work on same/different with ALL of my preschoolers, and usually the lessons and therapy gets pretty boring after awhile. I have found that my students really love great graphics and activities that they can relate to. Every child can relate to a birthday, so that's how this activity came to be!
The download includes 6 pages - 3 for similar and 3 for different. Also included is an instruction page that your students can reference while using the worksheet pages (see below).
As you can see, the reference page gives examples of things that are similar and things that are different.
The activity centers around the birthday theme, but it is not all just cake and confetti. There are some broad range of birthday pictures in the hopes that some spontaneous language production will occur from using these pages. After all, how often do you see a dog wear a party hat?
The example above is one of the easier pages. There are four choices and the student has to tell which one is different in each line. You would be surprised at how many students don't look at ALL of the pictures and then get stumped.
Use these pictures to go into deeper detail. For example, I included pictures of dinosaurs at birthdays, and right now our thematic unit at my school is dinosaurs. So after I introduce these pages to the student, I plan to bring out our plastic dinosaurs and compare/contrast those!
